Mrs Brown's Boys star Dermot O'Neill gets the all-clear from cancer

Wonderful news for the 67-year-old actor who plays the role of Grandad on the show. Over Christmas, he was rushed to hospital with the illness so we're glad to see he's on the mend

Mrs Brown's Boys star Dermot O'Neill says he is "over the moon" after getting the all-clear from cancer.

The 67-year-old actor, who plays the role of Grandad on the hugely popular sitcom, was concerned that he had suffered a relapse in recent weeks, however he has been given good news instead.

Dermot explained that his neck was swollen, which forced him to pull out of appearing in the new series of All Round To Mrs Brown with his friend Brendan O'Carroll.

While his scan was initially delayed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Dermot was finally seen to by doctors last week who delivered the happy news that he was cancer-free.

"I'm over the moon, it's such a load off my mind," he told the Irish Sun.

"I had been living in a nightmare with a swollen neck and this thing flashing through my mind, 'is that the cancer back?' Now I can go back and live my life."

Dermot, who is also known as 'Bugsy' took ill over Christmas and was rushed to hospital.

The actor was put on a feeding tube by doctors after complaining of feeling unwell over the holidays.

His wife Chickie said he was left "exhausted" after receiving treatment for cancer.

She said: "What we didn't want to happen, happened. Dermo has been hospitalised to rehydrate him and be put on a feeding tube.

"Two more chemo sessions left and eight radiotherapy sessions. It's been a tough road for him. Let's all send him our love to get him over the finish line."

We're glad to hear that Dermot, aka 'Grandad' is on the mend.

Despite Dermot's good news, it's been a time of heartache for the stars of Mrs Brown's Boys recently.

"She died in a nursing home of the coronavirus so I was very sad to hear that because all of my mother's family her brothers and sisters and their husbands and wives are all dead now, Nancy was the last one," he said while appearing on The Six O'Clock Show.

"Unfortunately I don't know what way the funeral arrangements are going to be but I'm assuming that we're not going to be able to go so it wouldn't be as big as the one she deserved.
