The show’s creator and star, Brendan O’Carroll, has done an amazing job in creating such a funny and special show and the fact that most of the cast are members of his family makes it even better. In this clip we see that Mrs Brown’s son, Dermot, has locked himself in a cupboard due to last minute wedding nerves. Rory Cowan was pretty frank in revealing his reasons for leaving Mrs Brown’s Boys

“I really got very, very bored with it.” The absence of Rory Cowan was arguably the biggest talking point following the Christmas and New Year specials of Mrs Brown’s Boys, which, once again, were amongst the most popular shows on TV over the festive period. Cowan’s departure from the show came as a shock to fans when the news emerged during the summer and not everyone was enamoured by his replacement (Damien McKiernan) for specials which aired over Christmas. Not that the reaction to ‘the new Rory’ had too much of an impact on the original Rory, mind, with Cowan revealing to Brenda Donohue on the Ray D’Arcy Show on RTÉ Radio One that he had begun to grow very tired of the role and had little interest in watching it in his absence. “I wasn't curious (about watching his replacement) at all,” Cowan said. “I'm passed it, I'm gone, I'm doing something else!” Although he didn’t see the shows, Cowan still gave a fairly accur

Russian censors wanted to remove gay character from Mrs Brown's Boys

The creator of the sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys has rejected a lucrative licensing deal in Russia after being told he would have to remove a gay character from the storyline. Brendan O’Carroll said other eastern European countries had raised concerns about the gay character, but the Russian deal would have involved removing the role altogether. O’Carroll, who plays the lead character, Agnes Brown, as well as writing the show, said he had turned down “a nice little deal” with Russia. “It’s is a big country so the fee you’d charge for the licensing is audience-related, so it’s a big audience and it would have been a nice fee. “But [they said] ‘no gay, absolutely no gay’. So I said ‘no gay, no show’. And that was it.” The gay character in the show is Mrs Brown’s son Rory. The character was originally played by the actor Rory Cowan, but is now played by Eric O’Carroll. MRS Brown's Boys viewers have suggested Rory needs to be written out as his replacement made a major blunder in the New Year's Day special. Newcomer Damien McKiernan forgot his character's name in tonight's show - and it caused an upset on Twitter. BBC Actor Damien McKiernan is now playing the role of Rory At the start of the show, "New Rory", played by Damien, entered the kitchen and Mrs Brown offered him a cup of tea. He said no, adding: "I'm actually here to see you Rory..." as he addressed Mark, who was sat at the table. Damien and the other castmembers burst out laughing as the actor sank to his knees. Brendan O'Carroll, still in character as Mrs Brown, then said: "We've had all week to learn this but that was my fault."
