Star will host new panel show Tell Me Something I Don’t Know, which will see the Dublin showman play himself
BRENDAN O’CARROLL is the star of TV’s most popular sitcom and now the Mrs Brown’s Boys creator has landed his own show.
BBC1 aim to cash in on his popularity with new panel show Tell Me Something I Don’t Know, which will see the Dublin showman play himself for once.
As Mrs Brown’s Boys is watched by 11million and was voted the 21st-century’s best sitcom, it’s a safe bet for Beeb commissioners.
An industry source said: “The BBC are really excited about the premise.
“It’s set to be a lively family show, which sees contestants play games and answer questions. Bosses know that Mrs Brown’s Boys has a fiercely loyal following who can be relied on to tune in to see whatever Brendan is getting up to.
“There’s hope it will become a staple entertainment show.”
The programme is being overseen by Hungry Bear Media, the production company that is also behind the sitcom’s chatshow spin-off, All Round To Mrs Brown’s, which is due to return next year.
Producers are currently looking for members of public to take part in the series, with an ad reading: “We’re looking to create a fun, exciting atmosphere in studio and will be inviting members of the audience to come down and take part in the gameplay.”
It will be yet another string to Brendan’s bow, with Mrs Brown’s Boys due to return for a Christmas special, this time minus regular actor RORY COWAN.
Rory quit earlier year because he dreaded all the touring the cast have to do for the live versions of the show.
Hopefully Brendan will find a creative writing solution — and then, minus wig and frock — still wow viewers on his new show.
