MISGUIDED ON MUSLIMS Mrs Brown star Rory Cowan urges Vogue Williams to ‘stay strong’ against vile trolls who threaten to kill model over internment coloumn

While the actor disagrees with the TV presenter over locking up all Muslim extremists he said she was entitled to express her opinion free of violent outbursts

UNDER-FIRE model Vogue Williams had deranged trolls threaten to kill her after calling for all Muslim extremists to be locked up in internment camps.
But Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan has urged the TV presenter to stay strong after facing down online death threats himself.

Vogue has apologised for her “misguided” remarks but blasted the vile critics who inundated her with abuse.
She said: “I made a mistake and I’m sorry for that, but the reaction I got — death threats, hate, pure vilification – doesn’t promote debate.
“People need to tease out opinions, to learn. That type of online abuse leads to people retreating into themselves and sticking with a sometimes wrong opinion because they’re afraid to even address issues in case they’re wrong.
“Of course everyone should make a concerted effort to be informed, but sometimes we make mistakes with our opinions.
“If we’re afraid to have a debate or discussion without bringing it down to what people look like or allowing people to veer off what’s expected of them, we run the risk of only a small minority voicing their opinion.”

Last week Vogue, 31, wrote in her weekly newspaper column that she agreed with internment camps as a way to fight terrorism.
The former Fade Street fox — who is dating reality star Spencer Matthews — said the draconian move was needed despite a similar crackdown on the IRA failing in the North.
She insisted: “We can no longer sit around and do nothing. Powers to ban British jihadis from returning to the UK have been used for the first time and I fully agree with it.
“Anyone who leaves Britain and Ireland to fight alongside ISIS can stay out. I don’t care what age or what their circumstances are.”

She added: “Another approach was suggested by a Muslim former police chief, Tarique Ghaffur, who said thousands of radical extremists must be locked up in new internment camps to protect Britain.
“There are up to 3,000 extremists living in the UK — far too many to keep a close eye on. This is something that should be decided by the people, but I certainly agree with it.”
But Vogue today said she voiced her views at a time when she was upset and shocked at the suicide bomb attack carried out at Ariana Grande’s Manchester concert by evil Salman Abedi.

She said: “Like many others I felt frightened and angry. I jumped to the conclusion that if the UK government had insight into the individuals or network that carried out the attacks, then the country should act on that with a zero tolerance approach.
“I will stand by this but after reflecting more deeply, I understand that suggesting internment camps — i.e. imprisonment without trial — was a misguided opinion.
“Everyone has the right to a fair trial and to be heard and I of course do not believe in a dictatorship type of government.”
Her comments sparked a fierce online backlash with Twitter critics branding her “stupid”, “a totalitarian”, “evil” and “Islamophobic”. Others compared Vogue to a Nazi.

One fumed: “You’re an absolute gobs**** Vogue. How dare you? So many Irish men and women suffered under internment. Go read a history book.”
Another joked: “DJ, Reality TV, ex-wife of a boyband singer, girlfriend of a reality TV ‘star’, Vogue now adds counterterrorism expert to her CV.”
And another mused: “Vogue Williams calls for Internment sounds like the s****iest RTE2 documentary of the year.”

But Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan, who was the victim of death threats after hosting an Israeli event, has urged Vogue to ignore the keyboard cowards.
He told the Irish Sun: “It is terrible and shocking, she’s just given an opinion and she must feel awful, God love her. I know Vogue and Vogue is lovely, there’s not a bad bone in her body.
“The people who are making the threats, I really just hope they’re found. They can’t be getting away with that type of thing.
“Every time she steps outside the door for a while, she’ll be wondering. All she did was give an opinion, you’re entitled to do that.
“There are some low-life people out there who will resort to this, because they think they can get away with it. She’s going to be frightened.”
And Rory said that Vogue should be allowed to voice an opinion without being attacked so viciously.
He said: “It’s an opinion. I wouldn’t agree. I can remember internment and stuff like that. But it’s a point of view.
“People react to things. She gave an opinion, whether you like her opinion or don’t like her opinion that doesn’t matter at all.”
Gardai wouldn’t confirm if there was a probe into the threats.
