Rory feels the comic was able to create a new type of chat show which has won over the public
ACTOR Rory Cowan reckons pal Brendan O’Carroll’s chat show All Round to Mrs Brown’s has finally silenced the comic’s critics.
While the original Mrs Brown’s Boys TV series was often hit with scathing reviews, the new spin-off has been winning new fans.
Rory said that Brendan O’Carroll has finally proved critics wrong with his new chat show
The BBC show features interviews with some of the UK’s biggest stars and their mammies.
And it set the tone for the whole series when singer James Blunt snogged Mrs Brown.
Rory says Brendan’s creativity always amazes him
And Rory, who plays Agnes Brown’s son Rory in the comedy said: “The reaction to it is brilliant. Normally there’s people who like Mrs Brown or don’t like Mrs Brown. This one is different –
most people love it. It’s so fast-paced. There’s such a mix of things going on that it keeps people entertained.”
Despite working with Finglas native Brendan for more than two decades, Rory says his pal’s creativity never ceases to amaze him.
He said: “A lot of Saturday shows are the same as they have been for decades. It’s like Brendan realised you can do it differently. He wasn’t interested in the traditional format of Saturday night TV.
“He likes doing things that are different because he doesn’t like following other people. He’s just fabulous.
“What I love is that he kept it in Mrs Brown’s house. He could have brought it out on the street or into the studio. He could have had bells and whistles all over the place but he didn’t mess with the Mrs Brown’s format.
“What he did was just fantastic and it really works.”
Michael Ball, Holly Willoughby, Sue Perkins, and Ross Kemp were among the big names who appeared on the first series of the show and Rory reckons that more big names will be eager to sign up after seeing what a success it’s been.
He said: “The next series, we won’t have a problem getting guests. We didn’t have a problem this year. We had great talkers. They all wanted to chat. They all have a history and know how to do interviews and have stories to tell.
“The mothers have been a revelation, they’ve been the stars of that show.
“You’re getting snippets about the stars that you would never normally get. Everyone has been lovely.”
Rory has been working with Brendan for over 20 years now
And Rory revealed how the Mrs Brown’s Boys team — including many members of Brendan’s own family — are busier than ever this year.
As well as the chat show and two Christmas specials, they are in the midst of a tour with Good Mourning Mrs Brown across Ireland and the UK.
Rory said: “We’re in the middle of a tour. We’re on a few weeks break and then we go back to Sheffield, Nottingham, Liverpool, London and few more. We spend a week in each place.
“That tour goes to the end of the year and finishes in the 3 Arena in Dublin. Then we have to film the Christmas specials as well. Rory said he is still amazed how Brendan single-handedly writes all the Mrs Brown’s Boys episodes
“It’s the busiest year I’ve had with Mrs Brown. It’s great - I love it.”
And he’s amazed how Brendan single-handedly writes all the Mrs Brown’s Boys episodes.
He said: “Brendan does it all himself. On all other shows, you look at the writers and it’s a team. Brendan does it all. I don’t know how he does it.”
I love All Round to Mrs. Browns and Mrs. Browns Boys, they are so funny. A lovely bit of light hearted humour on a Saturday night, I love seeing all the stars mums

Brendan O'Carroll's hit BBC series is a real family affair When casting the Brown family, Mrs Brown's Boys creator Brendan O'Carroll didn't need to look far. In fact, he didn't have to look beyond his own living room. The cast of the hit BBC comedy are mostly members of the comedy writer's family, but how are they all related? Agnes Brown - Brendan O'Carroll The titular mammy is the daddy of the family and father to Danny O'Carroll who plays Buster, and Fiona O'Carroll who plays Maria. His sister Eilish plays next door neighbour Winnie, his wife Jennifer plays daughter Cathy, and his real-life grandson, Jamie O'Carroll, Betty Brown – Amanda Woods Mrs Brown's on-screen daughter-in-law is actually Brendan's daughter-in-law off screen too, as she's married to Buster (Danny O'Carroll) Brady in real life. She's Maria (Fiona O'Carroll) Brown's sister-i...
Harold Brown , better known as Grandad is the father of the late Redser and father-in-law to Agnes. Grandad is fairly fit for his age, being able to walk without a stick and is seen very nearly running in one episode. He gets on well with the family; however, with Agnes, this is a different matter altogether. The two have a deep rivalry, and are sometimes quite horrible to each other, examples of which include: Agnes forcing Grandad to sing a Western song and hitting him with a tray, Grandad trapping Agnes behind the Christmas tree, Agnes trying to get rid of Grandad for two weeks and Grandad referring to her as "The Twat". Despite their animosity to each other, Agnes and Grandad have been shown to genuinely care for each other, even if they conceal it very well. On Valentine's Day, Grandad gave flowers to Agnes and admitted that he thought his son was foolish for taking Agnes for granted. On another occasion, when Grandad was to go to the hos...
Wonderful news for the 67-year-old actor who plays the role of Grandad on the show. Over Christmas, he was rushed to hospital with the illness so we're glad to see he's on the mend Mrs Brown's Boys star Dermot O'Neill says he is "over the moon" after getting the all-clear from cancer. The 67-year-old actor, who plays the role of Grandad on the hugely popular sitcom, was concerned that he had suffered a relapse in recent weeks, however he has been given good news instead. Dermot explained that his neck was swollen, which forced him to pull out of appearing in the new series of All Round To Mrs Brown with his friend Brendan O'Carroll. While his scan was initially delayed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Dermot was finally seen to by doctors last week who delivered the happy news that he was cancer-free. "I'm over the moon, it's such a load off my mind,...
