The Blackadder and Young Ones writer speaks about the show and his views on sitcoms Ben Elton, the writer behind the classic shows Blackadder and The Young Ones and hugely successful comedian and author in his own right, has given his views on Mrs Brown’s Boys and live sitcom. Mrs Brown's Boys  creator Brendan O'Carroll has reportedly refused to cut swearing for the show to air in the US. However, star Rory Cowan told the  Irish Mirror  that O'Carroll has refused for the show to be edited in any way, despite US networks' strict rules on explicit language. Cowan, who stars as Rory Brown and also works as O'Carroll's manager off-screen, said: "The problem with us in the US is because there is swearing in it - there cannot be swearing in any TV shows on any network channel. "By law if there is any swearing it has got to be beeped - and not just change the words. Brendan won't agree to that at all. "Brendan would stick to his guns. Fiona O’Carroll has vowed the smash hit show will go on without Rory but the rest of the cast do wish him all the best. Rory, 58, had recounted how there was no going away party for him after his last Mrs Brown performance at London’s The O2 last month.
